Why I Love to Paint

I have been an artist ever since I can remember. During my time at high school, I would make random drawings in my workbook, rather than working on tasks and assignments. I would have been around 17 years old when I discovered airbrushing, which led to various illustration work such as logos, wedding cards, advertising and cd-covers to name a few. During that time I was also active in the 'street art' scene, which probably explains the tone of some of my artworks.

Painting is more than just a passion for me, it's a vital part of my wellbeing. It improves my mental health and sharpens my brain function, acting as both a release and a recharge. Through art, I’ve found a powerful avenue for communication and self-expression, a way to share thoughts, emotions, and ideas that often feel too complex or raw for words. Many a times it has helped me through difficult periods in life, acting as a coping mechanism, allowing me to depict some of my thoughts and emotions, something that hasn't always come easy to me to express in words.

Being creative helps me reduce stress and anxiety, while also boosting my self-esteem. It invites self-reflection, encourages creativity, and constantly expands my perspective on life. I love experimenting with different mediums and materials, pushing boundaries, playing with texture, and letting each piece unfold organically.

Beyond personal growth, I also see painting as a way to promote social awareness and change. Art has the power to challenge, inspire, and connect. For me, every brushstroke is not just a creative act, but a step toward understanding myself and the world around me more deeply.

Over the last couple of years I have come to the realisation that my art is not for the narrow-minded. It doesn’t try to please everyone, and I’m okay with that. I understand that not every viewer will connect with the artworks I create, and that’s the beauty of it. My work isn’t about fitting into the mainstream or appealing to the masses. Instead, it's for those who see beyond the surface, who feel something deeper, and who find a part of themselves reflected in the rawness and honesty of my expression. For that group of people my art speaks volumes.
