"Army of One"
Oil on Canvas - 2021 - 500mm x 500mm
“Army of One” is a deeply personal and symbolic work that captures a pivotal theme in my life — personal struggles — the kind everyone, at some point in time, endures. Whether visible or hidden, we all face challenges that test our strength. In those moments, it is common to withdraw, often believing we must face our battles alone. That instinct to isolate, to soldier on without support, is at the heart of this piece. The title “Army of One” speaks to that solitude — but also to the irony of it. While we may feel alone, there is often an army of support surrounding us, waiting for us to reach out.

The duck, wearing a camouflage army helmet and holding a toothpick between its teeth, appears bold and unshaken, an unlikely yet powerful metaphor for resilience, rebellion and masked vulnerability. But beneath that confident exterior lies the reality of a person constantly misjudged for simply being themselves, dealing with mental health. The anonymity of the character depicted — its unidentifiable nature — reflects my own experience of being unseen or misunderstood at times, with no clear identity offered or accepted by others.

Through this work, I hope to encourage reflection — on personal battles, the masks we wear, and the importance of connection in the face of adversity.

"Life's what you fake it"
Oil on Canvas - 2022 - 500mm x 500mm
This painting is a reflection of the disconnect between how we feel and how we present ourselves to the world. The duck, wearing a jester hat, becomes a symbol of this performance — a character hiding behind humour, colour, and distraction. The jester hat, traditionally associated with entertainment and lightness, here serves as a mask, almost as a distraction. The little bells on the hat have been replaced with various emojis — symbols of emotional instability, masking, and the constant cycle of mood swings some of us navigate daily.
Behind the duck lies a backdrop that resembles a quilt — soft, comforting, but imperfect. The visible stitches hint at fragility and the patchwork nature of our emotional and psychological environments. There’s movement in the background, a subtle wave-like flow, suggesting the constant ebb and flow of our mental states.
The title, “Life’s What You Fake It”, speaks directly to the artificiality that surrounds us — especially in a world where appearances are often valued above authenticity. On social media, in our relationships, even in day-to-day interactions, there’s immense pressure to appear ‘okay’, to be successful, happy, and in control. But this portrayal is often just that — a portrayal. People are struggling behind carefully curated profiles, behind designer clothes, behind forced smiles.
This painting is a response to that struggle — to the artist’s personal experience of feeling unable to live authentically due to fear of judgement, ridicule, and exclusion. It speaks to the silent suffering many endure while keeping up appearances. It also reflects on a broader societal trend — a growing obsession with image and the performative nature of modern life.
While it might seem dark, there is comfort in the truth this work tries to hold — that we are all, in one way or another, stitched together, pretending, performing, and hoping to be accepted. This painting is both a critique and a confession, a quiet rebellion against the norm of fakeness in a world desperate for something real.
Untitled
Oil on Canvas - 2024 - 500mm x 500mm
This artwork portrays a duck—worn down, exposed, and visibly heartbroken. He wears a baseball cap, not covering his eyes with shades. That choice is deliberate as he is done hiding. The tears streaming down from his eyes are real, raw, and unfiltered. They represent the deep emotional fatigue that often builds when we pretend we're fine. The character depicted has reached the point where he wants the world to know that he is not okay.

The background is stark, deliberately empty. It reflects the internal void sometimes felt—an overwhelming sense of emotional depletion, of running on empty. Behind the duck, an infinity symbol stretches across the canvas, rendered in barbed wire. This speaks to the persistent, often invisible pain that loops endlessly through life acknowledging the full emotional spectrum, but in this artwork also mirrors the entanglement of feminine and masculine energy, embodied in all of us, regardless of how we present.

This work is a quiet rebellion against emotional suppression. It’s about honesty, exhaustion, and the courage to be seen in your most vulnerable state. The duck may seem cartoonish, but his pain endured is not. He is every one of us, at our most tired, most truthful, most human.
